Guilford Smith account book, 1895-1916.

Cash book kept by Guilford Smith of South Windham, Connecticut. The volume contains his private finances as well as household accounts. Smith joined Smith, Winchester & Company as a clerk at age 19 and eventually became the company's president. He also served as president of the Windham National Bank, director of the New London & Northern Railway, and as a representative to the state assembly. Among the ephemeral pieces glued inside the volume are a copy of the Haberdashers Correct Dress Chart for autumn and winter 1904 and 1905 and copies of new automobile laws for Connecticut and Massachusetts. Smith's involvement with the South Windham Ecclesiastical Society is also reflected in the volume.
